Ferry operator says it is being called off for the Arctic due to severe winter weather
Ice storm warnings are in place for the West Siberian Arctic Shelf between Russia’s far east and Alaska as the Arctic Ocean approaches.
The ship is believed to be in the ice-bound Arctic Ocean.

Oksam Transceivers CEO Alexander Sverdlov tells DAN News that the Almaty-based firm did not expect an ice event during its winter ferry, a practice he says has now become routine during the year.
The firm says that this is the first time a ferry has been warned for a severe winter storm, saying “we have a long history of doing this and it shows once again the need for strong winter weather protection”.
Danish authorities warned the ferry to pull into the Arctic in December when temperatures dropped below -25C for the first time since 2006.
